Making a Leap

It’s Tad Light here once again reporting from Hong Kong!

As I stated in my last blog, I’m here at Lingnan U studying abroad in HK. I’ve been representing 4-H to the fullest here by wearing my shirt that was generously donated to me and all the other campers at Alpha II by the national 4-H council (YEEAAAH HOW HOW). I wore that shirt today, and I also wore it a few days ago on a trip with some of the other International students to Macao, SAR (Special Administrative Region). Macao has that title (SAR) because it’s exactly like how Hong Kong is – it was once a colony of a different country (Portugal) but the Chinese government got it back in 1999. And just like Hong Kong, it’s pretty much it’s own little country; you need your passport and everything to enter. Macao is pretty famous, it’s like the Las Vegas of the Eastern Hemisphere. Home to the world’s largest casino! I’m not a gambling man, but I went into one of the casinos (The Grand Lisbao) just to check it out, and because all my friends wanted to throw their money away. hahahahha. Anyway, it was awesome! The place was very lavishly decorated and it was great just to walk around and look at the place – it was beautiful!

Not only is Macao home to the world’s largest casino, it’s also home to the world’s largest commercial bungy jump….............ooooh yeeeeaaah…....

That’s me there getting ready to jump off of Macao Tower. 233m (764.4 ft.) baby!!! WOOO!!!!
It’s an incredible view from up there, as you can probably tell.
THERE I GO!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!! hahahahahaha
That was so much fun….you people don’t even know. I think I’m going to go again, as a matter of fact. Next time I go it’s nearly half price, and I get to jump off backwards!! YEAH!! In other news…....
  • I had the best vegetable soup of my life at a local restaurant near campus. I can’t believe I had to leave the US to get the best vegetable soup ever. Weird, eh?
  • I have complete disregard for my personal appearance. hahahaha. Well, that’s not entirely true. Although contrary to my normal practice, I’ve let my facial hair grow past the point where it itches my face. It’s been a good 2 weeks solid and I’ve got an alright beard shaping up. I’m also letting my hair grow out too, I’ve decided. It gets kinda curly when it grows out, and it’ll be a good combo with my beard I think.
  • I started lifting weights yesterday! hooray!! I found out to use the gym here it’s like $3HK every time! That’s preposterous! Well, I guess that is only like 40 cents in the US, but still – that stacks up!! Hopefully I’ll find a way to circumvent that. The weightroom is inadequate anyway! They don’t even have a barbell and a bench to do bench press! there’s only a Smith Machine! arggg…..I’m gonna write a letter….
  • I’m so good with chopsticks now that I’m lethal.
  • I never really mentioned this, but food is pretty cheap over here! I had a really good dinner today for $36HK, a lil over $5US. I mean, I’m full! and that’s with soup, and a drink included!
  • The University Anthem is to the same tune as my high school alma mater. hahahaha
  • I’m thinking of joining the University Dance Society.

Well, I think that that’s about all for now. I’ll be around!

Hey there Tad,
I thought that was a pretty good jump and glad I didn’t know until it was over.
If you keep that beard neat and trimmed, you will look Abe Lincoln- like, maybe. :)
I’m glad you are enjoying what Hong Kong has to offer and I’ll want to hear lots more about it!!
Love you,
Mom
