Exhibiting 4-H Through Dance
My feet are burning!!! ...... Sorry had to get my complaining out of the way.
The 4-H Dancing Ambassadors traveled to Lewisburg, WV this past weekend to exhibit their skills at the State Fair. Our group is made up of young men and women from all across the state. We range in age from 14 – 21, or going into 9th grade through 21. We perform dances from all over the world, mainly folk dances. We are still looking for a couple males to join the group that would love to dance! If you want information on how to get involved with the group you can leave me a comment and I’ll get back to you.
This past weekend we performed four times, twice on Saturday and twice on Sunday. We came early on Friday night to practice and then get a good nights sleep before Saturday’s performances. We stayed at the Greenbrier County Youth Camp in Anthony, WV. If you go to this camp for any event, 4-H or otherwise, I think you’ll be impressed.
I truly enjoy traveling with this group of fine dancers all over West Virginia to perform not just because it’s a load of fun, but we get to show people one of the parts of 4-H they don’t see much. It’s also a part of our heritage here in WV. By exhibiting these dances we show the people of West Virginia that we as 4-Her’s love our state and we only want everyone else to see it’s beauty the way we do. By that I don’t just mean our mountains and rivers, but the beauty of our states music, dance, and art. Our state is unique in how much we celebrate where we come from and those that came before. I feel proud to call myself a West Virginian and to represent West Virginia 4-H in such a prestigious group.
We will be performing at the Jackson’s Mill Jubilee on Labor Day weekend on Saturday and Sunday. We hope you come see us!
Love Always,
Caroline
