Ice Ice Backwards (ECI)
Tad here, and I just got back from a week of working as an ECI at Ohio County All-Age 4-H Camp 2007!!!!!! I had a great week up there and I must say, it was quite an experience. The only previous camp that I had worked was Randolph Co. Older 4-H Camp, so it was a major change going from an older camp, to OMC, then into a camp where there are 9 and 10 year-olds running around.
When I got there and I heard that I was going to be a counselor in one of the younger boys? cabins, I was like, ?Oh alright, that?s pretty cool.? 4 or 5 hours later I was like, ?That?s it?.....I?m never having kids.? Hahahaha, nah, it wasn?t really that bad. I mean, there were some extremely irritating discipline problems, but all those boys are good kids, and I enjoyed hanging out with them. I think the most memorable part for me was when we were all in the cabin getting ready for the big party on Thursday night, and I was giving all the guys advice so that they could go out and woo the ladies. I was teaching them a bunch of dance moves, including some stuff I learned out of the music video for ?Beat It? by Michael Jackson. I told them, ?If there?s one thing that girls like, it?s a guy who will dance with them! It doesn?t matter if you?re any good or not, just dance! So remember that! And I?d better not see you guys leaving the dance floor!!?
Anyway, the guys didn?t disappoint me. I was always walking around the floor and I?d usually find them out there dancing. If I didn?t see them out there and I happened to see their girlfriend or the girl that they targeted for some camp romance, I made sure to get them out on the floor as soon as possible as to facilitate their mac-in?!!! YEAAAH!!! You know, I like to look out for my fellow man.
Another thing that was awesome about the week was teaching the Charting class. For those of you that don?t know anything about it, Charting is awesome. It?s a project that requires your participation in a class at camp, and it?s all about introspection and discovering yourself through careful analysis of your ideals and all that jazz. That description was probably the best I?ve ever given on Charting, because it?s a lot of stuff all in one, and it?s awesome. Anyway, Tina (my fellow ECI at Ohio Co.) and I taught Charting class. It was pretty cool because it allowed us to get closer to the people in the class.
Well anyway, I had a great week. This coming week I?ve got my own county?s 4-H camp, Pleasants County, and I?m pretty pumped about it. I think it should be a good time, and I?m ready to get wild at camp.
