Keepin' the Spirit Alive!

Caroline | July 20th, 2007 at 5:05 pm

It’s the last night here at Alpha II!! I can’t believe it went by so fast.

So it has rained all day here at the Mill. It would pause every now and then, but not for more than an hour at a time. I felt like a duck all day! Through this act of weather though I saw something that makes me proud to be a member of this great organization. The 4-H spirit never dies. Even though it was pouring the rain down campers still wer running to tribal meetings, still writing great council circle material, and cheering like they’ve never cheered before. This is all because of the love we share for this program and for what the program has given to us.

The time this was most evident to me this evening though was at our ending council circle. The rain caused us to be unable to have final council circle outside. When I heard this I was very worried and upset. There’s just something magical about a final council circle that could’ve been completely ruined by having it inside. Then at our final tribal meeting our chiefs told us council circle would be in the barn. For anyone who’s ever been to the Mill and seen the barn you know that it is huge and would just seem like the perfect rain spot. Let me tell you, it was. I truely enjoyed having final council circle in the barn more than normal council circle. I also heard many other campers and staff commenting on this subject in agreement.

My point in all of this is that no matter what the world throws at us, 4-H will get through it. We, as I learned at National Conference this year, are an organization that can change rapidly with our ever changing world. Today though, we didn’t just get through it, we made the best we could do better. 4-H definitely represents the expression : When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

So last, but not least, goodbye Alpha II 2007. It was a great year full of memories and enthusiasm. How – How, and get pumped for Alpha II 2008!!

Love Always,
Caroline

Hey Caroline!

Wow! Idk what it was about how you described council circle in the barn, but it was like I was setting there all over again! It gave me chills! Alpha 2 was great and I can’t wait to see ya back there next year!
