OMC: A Debriefing...

Melville | July 2nd, 2007 at 8:34 pm

Alright, so we’ve been out of OMC for over a week now – and maybe I should have gotten to this earlier, but I have been sort of unconnected to the outside world while attending the Marion County Camp (we’ll get to that in a future blog post).

The 2007 OMC started off great…I don?t know how it couldn?t. It’s never bad to see 4-H friends you haven’t seen in a year, and it’s even good to see those who you see more often. Things were going great, then I felt like camp hit a small, rough spot. Personally, I was still having a blast, but it seemed like camp morale was low. I’ll admit that I was a little nervous about the whole situation.

Then it happened though. Somewhere through the tangled mess of missing faces, medical emergencies and summer storms, the 4-H spirit busted through like the Kool-Aid Man through a brick wall. OHHH YEAHHH!!!

Suddenly, everything turned totally awesome. And in retrospect, I don?t know why I thought they wouldn’t be just fine. I mean, come on…it’s 4-H…it?s what we do.

The 2007 OMC week was one of the greatest weeks of my life (just like any other week of 4-H Camp.) This OMC was especially great because of the honor of being named Sag and becoming a 4-H All-Star.

Something I’ve slowly noticed in the past year, but this OMC definitely threw it in my face, is that the organization I love so much…maybe, just maybe…loves me too. All-Stars being the highest honor in West Virginia 4-H and being voted to be chief of my tribe, I can’t think of a bigger honor than your peers choosing you to lead them for the week. It?s pretty BOMB!

Well…like I said OMC 2007 = DYNOMITE!!!!!!

Thanks for blogging state and Mon County 4-H camps! I was Chief of the Mingo tribe at County camp way back in 1998 or so…back then we had all ages together in one camp, so it was pretty big. How many campers were there this year?
