First Years

Caroline | October 30th, 2007

This is my first blog in a month so I apologize in advance if my writing has slipped a little….

This blog goes out to all you first year 4-Hers. I realize that there are probably many of you who have just joined a club or about to join and I just want to give a big How-How to you all!! Being a first year is one of the scariest things I will admit, but its only scary as long as you let it feel that way.
I knew a lot about 4-H before I ever started because I had relatives in it, but for anyone who doesn’t I will give you some advice. Even though it may be scary, get involved in as much as you can with your club. Become a song leader, recreation leader, or a How-How leader for your first office. If your club does community service projects or fundraisers get involved as much as possible. To really obtain the full value of 4-H you have to experience all of it, not just one aspect.
Also, +*DON’T *+be afraid of the older kids! I know from experience that they love you guys and that they are more scared of you than you are of them because they know they were you once! If you take the initiative to make friends you will be rewarded.
Lastly, don’t quit because your first year wasn’t that great. I promise the years only get better. Good luck first years! I hope your year is everything you want it to be and more.

Love Always,
Caroline :)
