What can happen when you do your 4-H projects
You know what can happen when you complete your 4-H projects? Well, you might end up acting in a TV show!
Ms. Sylvia Garson, producer of the Manhattan based cable network show “Kids Can Cook”, asked WVU Cooperative Extension to suggest names of some children to participate in the filming of this program. The program was filmed at the Wyngate Hotel – Charles Pointe, so Harrison County?s 4-Hers participated in the TV show. They were Roxanne Bumgardner, Bruce Bumgardner, Tyler Stutler, Luke Morgan, Denasia Loy, Aaliyah Loy, Lance Kniceley, Angela Post, and Gloria Post. Why them? You guessed it. They had all completed 4-H cooking projects and others.
Youth visited the McConnell Berry Farm in Grafton. At the farm they learned how to pick domestic raspberries. They also learned about blueberries, and irrigation systems. The raspberries picked were used to make smoothies later in the TV show. During the show the kids helped to warm-up pasta provided by Minard?s Spaghetti Inn and made smoothies with West Virginia grown fruits. All the products used in the show were made or grown in the state of West Virginia.
The kids really enjoyed visiting the McConnell Berry Farm and participating in the making of the Kid?s Can Cook TV show. It wasn?t hard to do. Ms. Garson gave instructions prior to each taping. She brought her own camera and everyone stood in front of it for everything. A WBOY-TV cameraman, ?Chris? also filmed the show. Sometimes we had to do something over again so that it would be exactly the way the producer wanted. All of the participants received goody bags and 4-H T-shirts for their participation. The 4-H T-shirts were provided by the WVU Extension Service. We gave a big ?HOW-HOW!!!? at the end of the ?shooting.? Remember to complete your 4-H projects. You?ll never know where they might lead you!
