Wow! a weekend at college away from Mom and Dad

Twenty-Two high school sudents spent a weekend at WVU—away from Mom and Dad!! WVU 4-H Host Weekend was held on October 5,6,7, 2007 at Camp Muffly. On Friday evening the group watched the WVU vs.Louisville Womens Soccer Game, where, of course, WVU won, one to zero. Saturday was a very busy day. We toured Lincoln Hall, the newest residents hall; Evansdale and downtown WVU campus. We visited Knapp Hall where Larry Cote, ED. D.(director, Leadership Studies Program & Academic Minor) talked about the Leadership Studies Minor. It is a new program designed for the student who wants to discover his or her full potential as a leader.
For Saturday’s buffet lunch we ate at a Towers Residence Hall. Very Tasty! The group even watched three out of five games of the WVU vs. Villanova, Womens Volleyball games. After touring and watching the games, we went back to Camp Muffly for a 4-H council circle. Instead of a spirit stick we had a “spirit bobbypin”, which was given to the Mingo tribe. We used leaves instead of candles for the H’s. After council circle we went to the WVU “Up All-Night” at the Mountainlair Student Union, where we were able to play pool, go bowling, arcade games, cards, make snow globes or keychains with your picture in it, and eat. The group, who was dead on their feet, finally went back to Camp Muffly where the beds are hard as rocks, the bed frames squeak every time someone turns over, and the walls are paper thin. Camp Muffly did have it’s downside but on the up side they had there own baseball diamond, a big flat field great for playing football in, and a sand volleyball court.
On Sunday, we had a panel made up of collegiate 4-H club members, to whom we could ask questions about college. All who submitted a question to the panel received a door prize along with the clover cookie cutters that were given to all the youth. After the questions we took group pictures and left smiling because of the geat time they had and maybe slightly blind from all of the cameras flashing. :D
Oh! And we didn’t do anything – ah – that our parents wouldn’t have wanted us to do!

Angela! Guess what! I was doing an inventory down in our sub-basement last week and I found a program from WVU Host Weekend 1985! I took a photo of it with my phone, wish I could get it uploaded on our blog!
